Discover Sheikh Mohammed’s art collection as part of the new “Dubai Collection” exhibition

Dubai: The first physical exhibition of the “Dubai Collection” – which includes works of art from the collection of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai – opens to the public Saturday at Etihad Museum in Dubai.

At the official opening on Friday, Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority and Chair of the Dubai Collection Steering Committee, inaugurated “When Pictures Speak: Collection Highlights of Dubai ”.

Organized by Dr Nada Shabout, and including loans from 11 private and corporate collections, the exhibition features a selection of 70 modern and contemporary works of art from across the region.

Launched alongside the exhibition, the Digital Museum of the Dubai Collection is an educational resource for the general public and will feature the works and artists represented in the Dubai Collection, as well as editorial content. The Digital Museum is accessible through the Dubai Collection website.

The Etihad Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. entry to the exhibition is included in the museum ticket.

The biggest supporter

On Friday, during her visit, Sheikha Latifa said: “I would like to thank [Sheikh Mohammed] for being the biggest supporter of the Dubai Collection, with his contribution of the largest share of works of art in this first physical exhibition. His Highness’s keen interest in being the first supporter of the Dubai Collection has been the main reason for his success.

Long term impact

She added: “Today marks a special moment for the Dubai collection with the opening of our first physical exhibition. We have full confidence in the long-term positive impact of this initiative on the development of Dubai’s cultural scene, as well as its impact on strengthening the creative economy both locally and regionally.

She also thanked Dr Shabout for having organized “a magnificent and inspiring story through the history of modern and contemporary art in our region, and our patrons who have entrusted us with their precious works, without which we would not have. could not create this exceptional spectacle “.

Group meeting

During her visit, Sheikha Latifa met several members of the steering committee, including Mohamed Al Murr, Abdelmonem bin Eisa Alserkal and Muna Easa Al Gurg, as well as some members of the conservation committee including Muna Faisal Al Gurg, the chairman of the conservation, Benedetta Ghione and Hala Khayat of Art Dubai, and Carlo Rizzo, Special Advisor of the Dubai Collection.

The group discussed the long-term mission and development of the Dubai Collection and received a presentation of the new Dubai Collection Digital Museum.

Guided tour

After the meeting, the group was joined by the curatorial committee for a tour of the exhibit, led by its curator, Dr Shabout.

Commenting on the opening, Alserkal, a member of the Steering Committee, said: “It is an honor to meet with my esteemed colleagues from the Dubai Collection Steering Committee, to reflect on this first leg of our journey and to help to lead the way. for this vital initiative. The Dubai Collection reaffirms the commitment of our city and its leaders to artists and their practice and recognizes their crucial role in developing a shared artistic and cultural heritage for future generations.

After the visit to the exhibition, the curatorial committee met to review the new works submitted for membership in the Dubai collection.
