Explore the Billings Public Library Art Collection!


Did you know that the Billings Public Library (BPL) has an art collection? Now is your chance to see it! The BPL organizes a special visit of its collection of works of art on Friday October 21st. The event is free and open to the public! The press release indicates that the program will take place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the BPL Community Hall.

Library Archivist Joe Lanning kicks off the event with a presentation on the story behind BPL artwork from 6-6:45 p.m. After the presentation, the pieces will be on display for the rest of the year. event that guests can enjoy.

Pieces in the fine art collection include oil paintings by Joseph Sharp and watercolors by Charles Russel. The “Yellowstone Kelly” card will also be displayed for others to see. Joe Lanning says this historic piece is a silk card that once belonged to Luther Sage “Yellowstone” Kelly.

Lanning says a total of eight artworks will be on display at the event. These pieces have been kept at the Yellowstone Art Museum for the past three years to preserve many of these historic pieces. He also adds that many people were unaware that the Billings Public Library even had a relevant collection of local historical artists.
