The top floor of LACMA’s Broad Contemporary Art Museum has been reimagined from floor to ceiling, featuring 250 works by 200 20th-century artists, from German Expressionists to David Hockney.
Senior Curator Stephanie Barron was able to bring together a broader view of modern art during the construction of the new David Geffen Galleries.
âWe have the kind of basic modern collection, but due to our construction we were able to incorporate works from other Latin American art departments,â she said, âOur great Diego Riveras, at both the Cubist still life and classical work from 1925 Flower Day have now joined other works of the adolescents and the 1920s. “

If the original design of the Renzo Piano gallery is different, it is. The architect Frank Gehry and his associates are behind the makeover.
âBehind me there is a beautiful light that descends on Brancusi and Henry Moore, an Archipenko, or even in our Giacometti galleries bathed in natural light, all exploited thanks to the genius of Frank Gehry and his team,â said Barron.
Bring your cell phone with headphones – because the music has been curated for art and there are QR codes to scan throughout the exhibit to hear it.
There are codes for half a dozen self-guided tours. Among them: the Picasso collection.
The Central Meridian facility is back after 20 years. It’s also known as The Garage, created by LA artist Michael McMillan in 1981, who oversaw this relocation.

Not only does it look like a 60s garage, but with the musty oil smell it smells like one.
âThat’s the beauty of an immersive environment. It hits you, it smells something, it looks like something, it gets under your skin and you come out of it, after you’ve had that experience. It’s very different. to look at a painting on the wall, âBarron said.
Timed entrance tickets must be purchased in advance online for admission. The current general admission block is available until June 29. Tickets are published one month at a time.
