Have you ever visited an olfactory gallery in which guests are invited to smell the art? You are about to have your chance. Our next Untapped New York Insider event invites you to wade your way through Olfactory Art Keller’s collection of scent art. This unique gallery, which opened its doors in February 2021 in New York’s Chinatown at 25 Henry Street, features works by perfume-making artists. Olfactory Art Keller has organized seven exhibitions including New York/New Smokes, which features the never-before-seen creations of 21 New York-based olfactory artists. The Insiders event will be led by Andreas Keller Ph.D., gallery director and author of “Philosophy of Olfactory Perception.”
On August 13, Untapped New York Insiders are invited inside the olfactory gallery to meet a perfume artist and a philosopher of smell. During the event, you’ll be able to smell over 50 scents you’ve never smelled before, including one inspired by the smell of bat blood and an olfactory recreation of an intimate embrace. Unpublished works by Master Perfumers Christophe Laudamiel and Carlos Benaim. The event is free for Untapped New York Insiders (and get your first month free with code JOINUS).
Keller Scent Art Tour
Olfactory Art Keller encourages artists to create scent art and collectors to collect it. Keller is an academic who studies different aspects of olfactory perception. He taught smelling to students at City College and Columbia University.
The gallery has held seven exhibitions to date, which usually involve inviting artists to bring their original scents. Past exhibitions at the gallery included Ten encountersin which Saskia Wilson-Brown of the Institute for Art and Olfaction invited 10 artists to explore the encounters between two individuals who have shaped culture to this day; perfumes of exile, in which Brian Goeltzenleuchter asked refugees and immigrants about their olfactory memories of home; and /Forest bathwhich brings forest and forest bathing directly to the city.
